EMDR/IFS

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Internal Family Systems (IFS) are two powerful therapeutic approaches that I offer to support individuals in their healing journey. These modalities have been proven to be effective in treating trauma, anxiety, depression, and a wide range of other emotional and psychological challenges. You are not alone - there is a path for healing!

EMDR

EMDR is a psychotherapy approach by the World Health Organisation (WHO). It  helps individuals process distressing memories and experiences, allowing for healing to occur on a deep level. Through a structured protocol, clients can reprocess traumatic events and develop healthier perspectives, leading to emotional relief and a greater sense of well-being.

Here is how it works...

EMDR works by using bilateral eye movements, sounds or vibrations to activate a distressing memory and bring it to a positive resolution. High levels of emotional disturbance at the time of an overwhelming experience can disrupt the natural information-processing system of the mind. Distressing experiences may become stored with the sensations, emotions and beliefs encoded during the original experience, frozen in time in its own neural network and unable to connect with other memory networks. This means that we experience the past situation again and again as if it is happining in the presesent moment.

IFS

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a highly effective therapy model that helps individuals access and heal their inner parts. By identifying and working with various aspects of the self, clients can achieve greater self-awareness, self-compassion, and emotional balance.

IFS in action...

IFS is an evidence-based psychotherapy, helping people heal by accessing, understanding and healing their protective and wounded inner parts. Just like members of a family, inner parts are forced from their valuable states into extreme roles within us. Each part has its own specific qualities, desires, and intentions and each part - even if we don't like it - comes with a good intention and therefore is welcome. The Self - or core - is that, which is not a part. We all have it and it can’t be damaged or harmed by trauma and knows how to heal.

During a session, this difficult memory or event is activated in a safe way and bilateral stimulation is used to desensitize the experience so that it is no longer disturbing. It  is then reprocessed so that it gets linked with new positive beliefs and thoughts.

In an IFS-session the therapist helps a client becoming aware of the different parts as well as the self. This can be done by different exercises such as a certain meditation or a visualisation...or just by exploring something that is troublesame in a certain way. The goal for healing is to develop a better understanding for ourselves (our parts) and to view ouselves with kindness.
