About Ulrike

I have worked in private practice since 2007 where I see private and corporate clients.  For many years I worked with student-clients within the Counselling Services of NUI Galway and with cancer patients and their family members for Cancer Care West, Galway. I place compassion and integrity at the core of my practice and honour the unique path of everyone I work with, creating a safe space to enhance well-being.

I hold a BA degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy as well as a Certificate in Analytical Psychology with Art Therapy.  I am a fully accredited member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and follow their codes of ethics.  Furthermore I hold a Diploma in Executive Coaching and Change Management.

Born and brought up near Stuttgart, Germany, I graduated with an Honours Degree in Business/Commerce.  I then began my professional career in Hamburg, Germany, where I worked as a Marketing/PR-Professional for over 13 years before moving to Ireland in 2005.  During this time I was engaged in different management positions in the area of management consultancy.  I was able to see what motivates people, and what their needs and concerns are.  During this time I also became more and more aware of the limitations of ‘traditional consultancy’.  Furthermore, by moving towards the middle of my life I noticed a strong urge for change in the way I worked.  I suddenly became more interested in the dynamics inside a person and between people rather than in classical business tasks.  I became fascinated and driven to identify effective methods and techniques, to enable people to utilise their own resources, whilst achieving authentic and sustaninable results.

In search for an answer, I discovered coaching.  The more I looked into it the more I started to see ways to combine the world of management consultancy and the methods of coaching.  I trained as a coach and management consultant in Hamburg and moved away from the field of Marketing into a new field of supporting people to reach their full potential, re-think their careers, achieve their goals and improve their chances for growth.

Working as a coach  I noticed that more often than not the issues that people brought to their sessions (as well as my own) lay on a deeper level than would be dealt with in coaching.  This brought me to counselling and psychotherapy.  I then went for training and completed a BA-degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy.  As much as I loved my course, I also found it quite challenging as it was accompanied by several years of my own therapy in different areas (humanistic, psycho-dynamic and Jungian).  There was no further hiding from unresolved business from the past and looking at aspects of my soul that had so far not been conscious to me.  While engaging in this process, the Jungian approach with its ways to look at the huge potential innate in every human being by taking the unconscious into the equation resonated deeply whith me.  I went on further Jungian training and still am on my journey towards individuation as a co-traveller along with my clients.
